Martin Karlsen
Martin Karlsen was built in 1952 with a steel hull and fully reinforced for ice. She was 212.9 feet in length with a beam of 36.8 feet and a draft of 17 feet She has a cruising speed of 11 knots with a range of 15,000 miles and an endurance of 60 days. Her compliment was 24 scientific staff and 22 crew. After her charters with CHS, Karlsen worked for a number of years in the Antarctic.
